I played from the first phase, and got kinda burned out quickly. Was a little disappointed with the direction they took the rules. But nevertheless, it is still Mordheim, and if this excellent community is going in, I certainly want to join. I saw in one if the updates that they were tweaking some of the rules. I only played Mordheim a couple of times, a couple of decades ago (Games Workshop games were hella expensive in the US) so I'm not too familiar with the rules. They're not dead-on, I'm guessing, but how much do they differ?

The rules have evolved Lord knows how much/often, hell the original rules set was just a six page article in white dwarf outlining a concept!

The first thing, which was a smaller thing was the stats system. In the tabletop game, the units have stats like in Warhammer Fantasy Battle. A small thing, since it could be translated to what they did, except for one thing and that was Wounds. In table top, most pieces have very few wounds, and every hit can become deadly (like blood bowl). In the PC version, it make it more casual.
Example in the tabletop game, you have an archer facing a champion. You can choose by running away, or take the chance, and hope your arrow find a weak spot in the armor and takes him down. In the PC version it is more like, I know I won't take him down, so I better run. Takes a choice away.
Than there is movement. In the PC game they use tactical points and action points. In the tabletop, you first move, than attack. Again take the above example with the archer. In tabletop, you choose to run away or shot. In the PC version, you WILL shoot, than run away. Again, just taking a choice away, as there only seem to be one right way to do it.
And the biggest concern I have is the choice of tactical points and action points. You will always try to use them. In the PC, you will attack as many times as possible, and than use Parry or Dodge, which ever have the highest percentage.
For me it seem like with all those options in the PC game, they all still just come down to only one right choice, which all players will pick after a little bit experience, and than the game become more about being lucky, than a strategist.
I don't have a problem with changes, but I wish, if to change the rules, that they were change with more Real options. Chance vs. Reward. I think that could have been accomplished very simple, by putting the tactical points together with the action points. Now, you would have to choose whatever to move or fight, attack or dodge, instead of now, always move and fight, attack and dodge.
Plus having the deadlier wound system.
Still not a bad game, as it visual is very beautiful, and set the atmosphere right. I'm just not certain it will have the longevity as the tabletop game. We need choices. As with Blood Bowl. I'm certain even the most experience player in here, learn new stuff now and again, and you see a distinguish difference between veteran and newbie (I'm the latter if in doubt ).
I don't see that with the Mordheim PC game. Still would play it with this group of people

I'm bang on for some action with this though I've been waiting for the actual development/progression system to be implemented because its dull without it since there's nothing to work towards. Also I feel a huge amount of the balancing they are doing is going to be called into question again because its not balanced to gradual progression. The Rules changes bother me less than most I feel as it's more like the 2ed RPG which has better mechanics anyway though I do have some other issues with the game currently.
First is the camera angles are awful and the alt overview is useless because it tell you nothing nor does it account for levels well, I keep getting lost or more to the point just running randomly hoping its towards the enemy. Deployment plain sucks balls right now and I'm worried they seem reluctant to allow players to choose there set ups I don't understand what the issue is with that. Also I'm really saddened by the loss of thematic stuff like Warband sizes, leaping attacks and generally the lack of core hired Mercenaries for joining factions and the Magic just a bit Dull in its current form, with cool stuff like Skitter leap being absent, Random Mutations seem like a whole ton of reasons not to play Possessed being as they can ruin your development in terms of weapons though there's a skill reset button currently which has me hugely concerned, as it allows you to completely reset a fighters skills and stats at any time while keeping the experience as this removes any real importance regarding development choices and would without a doubt be a deal breaker for me which is sad.
Finally I'm really against the system of Runes and Chaos Marks to enchant weapons and Items its just not appropriate to the setting and I feel they are coming at it from a high fantasy approach rather than the far more interesting and rich setting thats in place where magic is not every day and enchantments are incredibly rare and far beyond the reach of a bunch of nobodies scrounging around a ruin.
However despite saying all of that the game has promise and as long as they sort out the development and camera systems out its going to be fun, though I'm not going to lie Warhamer Total War's the game that has me excited...

The Gentleman are Getting ready for a side competition taking entries now, let me know if anyone wants to participate and I'll hit you with a group invite if you don't have one or if you do feel free to post your interest on the steam threads. With Progression about to drop this is the last chance your going to get at practising your control of the interface before it counts, for me I'm still not down with the controls yet so I need all the practise I can get! Regarding the game I've got some videos on my steam account or Youtube where I'm getting dissected bit by bit, now we have the overview I found I was missing previously especially as you can lay way points and look at statistics/effects on fighters via it, though its about to undergo some more improvements in the next update. The Mechanics are very simple but have a huge amount of contributing factors giving profiles like you'd expect on a RPG character but the games very fast flowing once you know what your up to and in all seriousness you want to increase the distance between warbands with more controlled deployments over anything else otherwise its a very fast brutal death match. Anyone interested in the mechanics let me know and I'll fill you in otherwise if you like the looks of it you'd be more than welcome within the community.
