Your right of course it takes tact to pull off especially in terms of whom and when to provoke but gladly I've never had any issues in that regard and its normally something you can pick up upon very quickly within a Division and obviously if a coach is not participating in a divisions banter threads then I steer clear of provocation at least until I know them better. There's also the matter of when, by which I mean during a game I'm not going to be anything but a perfect gentleman unless I have a good relationship with the coach in question and that normally entails using either steam or Ventrillo voice chat to converse with them on multiple occasions so I know my attitude and they hear me cackle with sadistic glee when either my or my opponents players get injured so they know its not personal I just love the thrill of the hunt, the mockery of Nuffle and most of all the Carnage, I actively encourage my opponent to foul at the end of a drive especially if they haven't scored yet because it can taunt them into a risk that can cost them a result and win me the game.

Yet I say all this but I take no pleasure in a 1 sided nuffling or the utter destruction of all but my most hated foes (Chaos Worshipping Scum of any race or creed normally) this is actually based upon the fluff for my Alter ego headcoach being a liche disciple of Nagash and chaos being the very antitheses of Undeath and is something I've been writing short pieces of fiction about for 5 or so years now. The point is I like it when my opponent fights back and the more capable in that regard they are the more of a challenge it becomes and the more I enjoy the game. In the above OCC game that was my 1900tv Khemri locking horns with 2560TV chaos built to kill and fight so I took pride in my ability to control and dominate the middle of the pitch, striking out 32% more blocks against them over the match with a 2.3 die per block average across the game, it was as such match ups are always are a fantastic challenge or battle in the area of Blood Bowl I most in enjoy.

I'm sure those coaches that have played me previously and know me from other leagues will attest to my being a perfect gentleman in my methods and I feel its worth saying that I'm able to be brutally evil because I'm not ruthless in my pursuit of victory as winning is not what I enjoy in bloodbowl, well not by itself anyway I'd happily Draw or even lose as long as the games a cracker (that's not to say I don't get frustrated - I'm just happy if Nuffle keeps out of the game enough so its a hard fought match) and I am courteous to a fault even when my opponents are being less than so in response. Which is actually the only way I ever become a true Arsehole, that will literally kill every player in your team without any hope of mercy, I hate rude offensive opponents, if you don't want to chat any more that's fine though I find it discourteous when a opponent just quits after a match, I'm not going to hold it against you but being aggressive, offensive and rude is only going to end in gang fouls every turn, the more offensive my opponent becomes the more polite yet ruthless I become winning is no longer on the agenda but instead I'm going full out to make that coach never play again if that's there attitude because as far as I'm concerned that attitude has no place in online gaming. Final point much in the same way I wont offer apologises for kills I also wont say Good Game post game unless it was for both coaches, instead I say Thanks for playing because I am always appreciative of opponents but I wont insult a match by calling it Good when it clearly was not, its much like I will always congratulate my opponent on clever play or touch downs even if I'm raging or feel robbed because to quote a rather good film made recently "Manners Maketh Man".

Just got finished reading this whole thread again . . . attempting to achieve some level of self help. Not gonna lie, I've been struggling with the foul again. Funniest thing is I really thought I had it beat. Gaming had gotten good. Started learning a lot from the coaches in the academy. Even started developing more of a name in BB. It's really cool to see people say, hello when you log on. I know all you can really do is show control of your own behavior and play. This is how people will judge you. It's the truth.

Problem is I see it lurking in the dark, just out of sight. Like most things, people evolve they change. I've went from a person whom would never foul. To person whom is completely consumed with killing ever player on your team; if you dare to foul me.

This. This so much. I fondly recall a game with charliebanks and his avenogres, which contained I believe twenty two fouls! Thing is we were both having a blast, laughing, mocking one another on sending off, vowing revenge for injuries, trying to tempt one another into bigger and riskier moves...I cannot for the life of me remember the score, or the result...but It was easily one of the three most fun matches I've had.

I never foul...unless you count all those times when I do. Which I don't. Ever. Because I'm pure as the driven snow, as you all know. Basically angelic, is what I'm saying.

And yeah, taking any sort of nuffling, ass-kicking, head stomping punishment is much easier when you get along well with the other coach. This is an endorsement of good sportsmanship, not in on-the-pitch play, but in chat and forums. I find that while sometimes it's hard to get over something in the short-term (while still in-game and still looking at those precious broken/dead pixels in the injury box), it helps if the other coach is cool about it. In any case, usually it doesn't take that long before I forget and it just becomes part of the team lore.
