A tricky question I've been wondering about for a bit:
On my Tin Orc team Bestial Binge Watchers, my first blitzer to level up got a double so I took dodge.
Seeing as my thrower is still unskilled, it seems like a good idea to use a blodge blitzer as a ball carrier instead. He is faster and way harder to knock down (especially early on, when there is next to no tackle).
Ofcourse that also leaves me with one less blitzer to muscle my way across the pitch (and leaves my thrower to get kick and leader, I guess).
Would like to hear how others stand on this.
Extra team info: After my second match I bought a troll and my two black orcs leveled up (one got +str, the other got doubles so I gave that one dodge as well). Second blitzer level up got MA+. Have enough money to get a goblin if I want to.
I'll be honest, I wouldnt have spent the double on a blorc on dodge. I tried that, and maybe it's just me, but I just wasnt getting value for money from him, especially once I hit 1500ish and teams had tackle. I always ignored doubles on black orcs, just taking block, MB, guard, standfirm, in whatever order was needed by the team at the time. The +ST though, hail nuffle and all his doings!
Anyway, personally I think a blodge blitzer is a decent ball carrier, but what I tend to do with my blitz blodgers is make them a cage corner. They've got all the skills they need to do so, any skills gained such as guard etc can only improve that role, and they are also available for a handoff to run for the endzone if dodge is required for that, or to make a hole for your actual carrier to do so.
One idea I saw someone do, was to give a blodge blitzer sure hands, do away with throwers entirely, and run linemen instead. As he put it "I don't pass, so why have a passer with lower armour?", as he dismantled my poor dwarves without taking a single casualty. the amount of times i rolled a 9 on his armour rolls that game...anyway I digress. He basically had an entire team of AV9, invited hits and played the most orcy orc team I've seen.
Playing wood elves like Norsemen, and I would have gotten away with it, if it wasn't for those pesky rats. GMT+1, but with a baby, so I'm usually on from 8-9pm my time until the small hours.
For me, if an orc blitzer rolls doubles early in development, I'm more inclined to take jump up, as it dramatically increases their range and gives them a few shots at free blocks from the ground each match. And of course if you're planning on piling on eventually, it helps keep them in the action. I'm also a fan of having one with diving tackle, but that's further down the line.
On blorcs, I would take dodge only if it was their 3rd skill or later. Block followed by guard or MB I think should always be skill 1 & 2.
My bronze orcs have a JU +MA blitzer, and I love the possibilities he offers the team. What to take next time he levels will be a real conundrum. Currently I'm leaving toward tackle to make him an elf chaser... If he doubles again, I'll be seriously tempted to give him DT.
I took a look at your team (very promising, you should be excited), and I have a couple thoughts
Thought the First; you can now field a cage with 2 ST5 and 2 ST4 corners (if you feel so inclined), so your carrier getting hit a lot shouldn't be a a major concern. I would be more concerned about making room for the the cage to move, and that's why you have blitzers
Furthermore, this impressive cage crawls along at MV4, so a MV6 carrier seems gratuitous. Use that speed to blitz and make room for your offense to advance.
Thought the Second; 6 SPP is not very far away for a thrower. You can have block on this guy by the end of the week if all goes well, making him much more useful all around. If he isn't scoring from the safety of the cage, he's a liability, taking up space where a blodge blitzer should be.
I summary I would say keep the thrower as your primary ball carrier and the blitzer as a blitzer. They're most useful doing there intended job at this early stage
Other stuff;
You shouldn't plan on passing, but eventually you will miss having the option First skill on Blorcs should be block! (or +ST, maybe guard) Cut some tv (I recommend a linorc), you won't dodge a lightning bolt!
Thanks for the tips. I actually messed up by not buying an apo when I thought I had (probably forgot to save). I'll probably still take the advice to drop a lineman though and hope my AV9 still gets me through to when I actually buy an apo. My TV is way too bloated atm (at least at this stage).
Getting dodge on the black orc probably wasn't the greatest. It's still kinda hard for me to pass up doubles when they happen. If he ever gets to lvl 4 he could become a really annoying blodge guard piece at least.
