Alright, I know. There are quite a few other races that are way harder to play, but...
Dwarves are not easy to win with. Movement is everything in Blood Bowl. You really control the game if you have higher movement than the opponent. You can capitilize on one bad roll from the opponent, and run through an opening and get deep in their field. On defense you can mark the players you want, or with ease set up defense, a slower moving race can't get past without grinding and clock ticking.
Yes, dwarves just won't die, and the team of elfs, just won't stop dying. But if you have five elfs left, you still have a chance to score against a full team. Try to do that with dwarves. What I'm trying to say is; Yes, it is easy not to get injured with dwarves, but very hard to score. Opposite with skavens and elfs. And in the game, it is the score card that decides who wins.
Is it fun to play against dwarves? No, it is not. It is a grind. But such a race is needed in the game. What would it be without saying "Damn, next week I have to play the dwarves".
It is all about the differences in the races you play. It's like the movie Blood Sport. You have to fight a little back jumping guy that can open coconuts with his hand chop, to a Thai boxer, not to mention the Sumo wrestler, that only goes down with a fist to his nuts (talk about a fight you don't want to have to do). It adds flavor.
So why this post? Because I want to feel good about playing with dwarves. Yes, it's all about me. I just started playing with dwarves in Tin, and yes, perhaps one of the reasons I like playing with them is that I have had a good start (which quickly can change).
But I think it is more of the style. It feels like a chess game. When I coach the elfs, it is easier to take one turn at a turn, and adept to what the opponent is doing.
With dwarves, you have to think a turn or two ahead, if you want to score or prevent the opponents from that.
Maybe that is why they are boring to play against. It's more of a chess match.
But you know what guys...I like it. I feel bad for using them, and when I win, it feels empty, because of their reputation. No more. The dwarves are not easy. Yes, they got some amazing starting skills, but if you can't get to the opponent, they does not matter.
So, yes, I will embrace the dwarf. They are blood bowl players too. And this is our motto;
