Season 6 opens for the blockers with a rematch of last seasons match up which Tutakabron took 1-0, starting a winning streak which took them to the top of their group. This time around though the teams look vastly different which Tut sporting 4 (squishy) ghouls and the blockers well drilled with smatterings of guard and mighty blow throughout the roster.
Tut won the toss and chosen to open with the ball in hand. As expected Vivomuerto (Ghoul, +1 ag) easily collected the ball and looked to make a run down the right behind Tut's key mummy and Wight. In response the blockers punched a huge hole in the defence sending the Wight to the reserves via the casualty box forcing a change of direction towards the blockers stronger side.
Blocks continued to be dished out from both sides with Tut knocking down the dwarves with almost 100% efficiency but the blockers still coming out on top with the injuries resulting in a ghoul ending up being stretchered off the pitch. With Tut's mummies isolated the blockers defence was holding forcing Vivomuerto to make a risky run through the middle of the pitch. In response the defence surrounded the ghoul and Red Oak blitzed the ball carried but was unable to knock the ball loose, though he did keep the ghoul within diving tackle range. Ultimately though the diving tackle defence was knocked aside and a few dodges later Tut was 1-0 up.
With 3 turns left in the half the blockers intended to move their little legs as fast as possible to try to go into halftime even. The team lined up for a run down the left, drawing the entire defence across who were caught out by the blockers switch play as a smaller group Wineglass Bay (Blitzer), Badlands (Slayer), and Black Duck (Runner) sprinted down the opposite side out of reach of most of the defence. After making a multitude of GFI rolls Tut was eventually able to get a blitz on the primary threat, Black Duck, who unfortunately went down. While the hope of a TD from Wineglass Bay still existed, ultimately the blockers were unable to get the ball into his hands and repeat Murray's debut heroics.
For the second half the blockers lined up with a packed front line with every intention of reducing the size of the opposition. This plan was unfortunately thwarted by a surprise blitz on the kickoff instantly putting the dwarves under strong pressure from Tuts guarding mummies who were herding the dwarves into tight clumps. Eventually Tut was able to make a play on Black Duck who was able to initially dodge away into limited protection but ultimately lost possession. Fortunately the ball ended up in the crowd who generously through it onto the ground next to a group of longbeards who had been left alone as the undead peeled off to chase the original ball carrier. As they tried to break away Vivomuerto eventually pounced and tried to kill off the game by sportingly throwing the ball away deep into the Blockers backfield.
This left two turns for the Blockers to pull off the seemingly impossible: a sprint by Black Duck back to collect the ball, and then a long pass to Wineglass Bay who was under direct pressure from a ghoul. As the clock wound down the crowd recalled similar last the heroics when the Blockers defeafed The Night Hawks. With 1 reroll in hand the pass was accurate, the catch completed in one TZ, the dodge successful and the TD scored with one GFI to tie the fixture and leave the home fans in a frenzy.
Final score 1-1, Cas count 2-1.
