Royal Misery 3 - WOTOW 2 This one was a barn-burner: blood on the pitch and lots of high flying pass action. In the end, it came down to a couple fumbled passes by the norsemen and Bad Mood Bill's ability to throw from anywhere on the pitch. Uggr the yhetee logged two more casualties with PO, but it turned out to be the elves who did the worst damage by killing a rookie wolf during their turn 16 OTS attempt to make it 4-2. Ironically, the attempt failed when their MVP thrower fumbled a short pass. Well, Comfort, it looks like somehow Royal Misery still has life going into week 7... Let's see how they fare against your smelly lizards.

DocOz - Comfort_Eagle
Match played and uploaded.
The MinMax Machine went into this one shaking in their boots, having seen the Purple Eaters' form and tendency to pulverise their opposition. A str5 tackle blitzer? - c'mon, that's just not fair. And those brutes can play ball too with all their +agi. Skinks went scurrying undercover, looking for garbage can lids, corrugated tin roofing, anything really, to give them a little more chance of surviving the mighty blows of the People Eater's tackly fists that were sure to fly.
Even with the return of Tenderly, the machine's decorated hard hitter, which brought the machine to full strength, they were still 100k behind in team value. Babes, bribes, apo, or potions? None of the above, actually. Following the advice of the leading coach in group 1, Comfort's game-plan was to take the biff to DocOz. And punching-on meant dice are gonna be rolled; what better way to tempt fate than by paying off Doc's assistant coaches to introduce some bad habits to the Purple Eaters' players in the training sessions in the lead up to the game. RR denial proves to be crucial to the outcome of the game.
The People Eaters win the toss, and elect to receive. You can see the black orcs on the LoS lining up their targets and thinking happy thoughts. The thermostat gets cranked right up with some sweltering heat, and which suits the cold bloods fine cos speed is on their side when the pitch opens up - but the effects of the heat don't take effect until the next drive. The lil ones'll pray to survive until then.
The blitzing corps' are as deadly as predicted - Kneedroppa's first blitz (and Doc's first move of the game) takes the machine's ball carrier saurus out of action, fracturing his leg and sending him into recovery for a couple of weeks. With a few sauri down, the rest marked up, and the ball snug in the hands of the orc thrower's sure hands, this was about as good a start as Doc could have asked for. Comfort's turn 1 begins with a dubskull. So much for that rr advantage...
A hole opens up in the LoS, and before you know it, the skinks are through, putting light pressure on the ball carrier. If the skinks can just get a screen together between the ball and the muscle, they'd have a flings' chance at landing with the ball. Longfinger (thrower) eyes the skink mob warily, runs the ball up-field to hand the ball off to his agility buffed blitzer friend, who runs further yet into a loose cage of intimidating muscle. Only the Krox could hope to barge his way near the ball carrier, and so he does. The skinks sense an opening and surround the blitzer with the ball. Here's the chance the machine needed, only, ... IT'S A TRAP! The look on the thrower's face wasn't concern, it was out and out menace! And he wasn't running for safety - he was luring the lil lizards into a meat grinder! With the skinks in reach, the ball-carrier turns around and thumps one of them so hard he'll be hearing bells for the remainder of the match. KO'd, never to return. The other skinks get punched down, the Krox is double marked, and it's looking like the show's over for the minmax machine. The only plus is that in all the enthusiastic skink punching, Doc uses up his remaining 2 rr's.
With the ball carrier free, and an open endzone in sight, Doc - ... wait, is he sticking around to punch more skinks? Oh the humanity!
Remarkably, the skink armour holds. That last minute garbage-can-lid reinforcing of skink armour seems to be doing the trick! In fact, with all the time taken to punch the snot out of the skinkies, has Doc forgotten the sleeping krox? I mean, sure, Cuddles is knocked down but with a successful blitz and break tackle, the ball carrier's in reach of his tail again! No bonehead procs on the big guy - in fact, has he even boneheaded once this match? He's playing like a pro (bbm suggests that out of 12 rolls, krox only boneheaded once all game!) and marks the blitzer carrying the ball, tail wagging. Skinks rally to their giant lizard friend, and again try to slow down the ball carrier. The diversion is enough, as swatting skinks distracts the orcs so that the krox can again blitz from prone, his scaly punch knocking out an orc thrower and sending him careening into the ball carrier. And !!! Did you see that? There was a sneaky skink scurried up behind the ball carrier's knees who loses balance and goes crashing into the crowd, ball and all! Meanwhile, across the pitch, black orcs and sauri punch on in a stalemate of sorts, oblivious to all the action around the ball until the half time whistle blows. The machine has held! Or more to the point, Cuddles the Krox, held, - like a boss - while Comfort threw waves and waves of small lizards at the ball in hopes of slowing it down. And it worked! Though only just.
Second half begins and the heat more or less evens out the pitch for both sides. 9 v 8 for the kickoff, but compare the players: 4 black orcs vs 3 sauri. The troll vs the krox. 3 of the remaining (amazing) blitzing corp and an av9 lino vs ... 4 skinks. Oh dear.
Just like in the first half, the minmax machine begin by rolling dubskulls. But as if to compensate, nuffle awards the mighty blow saurus with a casualty on his opposite number and the karmic balance is restored. 8 v 8. Skinks do their agi3 thing and fumble the pick up. Game on!
Blitzers and a troll push up onto the skink mob who are trying desperately to grab the ball. The pressure of the tackly punchy ag4 orcs breathing down their necks is almost too much for the poor lil buggers. Kroxigor to the rescue again! With their backs to the wall, the machine's only hope is break tackle blitzing with the big lizard, which again proves to be the right move... even the rr on the loner krox's block die works a treat, and the ball scatters free for a skink to grab and dash. The dash isn't far enough, apparently, as Doc's blitzing corps puts the lights out on the poor skink carrying the ball (would have crippled him for life, if not for the apo who was on deck). The ball passes through the hands of the orc squad (even a black orc handled for a turn or so), and the machine scramble to put up a last ditch screen near their own endzone. The problem with skink screens is... however... the skinks. Their puny bodies just weren't made for the sort of punishment orcs can dish out. Just one blitz was all it took to KO another skink, and the orcs have a clear run to score with a gfi or two ... only again, they are out of rr's and... BAM... Doc rolls a 1. Mind you, the curve on the d6 rolls is actually about even - just poor timing on Doc's part, getting 1's at the worst possible times.
A stray skink swoops in and manages to pick up the ball (hooray!) and with his killer pace, the result of the game is almost a foregone conclusion. With all the orcs marked up, DocOz is forced into attempting a blitz on the ball through an ankle-biting little diving tackler called Savage. This is no ordinary blitzer though - he's the most experienced player on the pitch, and with his freakish agility, and tackle to boot, it was even money on Skullsplitter saving the day... just a 4+ to get away from the tackler, and then lights out for poor lil skinky-poo. Luckily for the machine, the diving tackler in question was a veteran - one of the old guard from the team's glory days in tin. Savage knew as well as any skink how to be underfoot at the worst possible time, and threw his tiny body expertly at the ankles of his hulking foe, sending both of them crashing into the astro turf 2 paces shy of the ball carrier. Killer (having had his short life flash before his eyes momentarily) wiped the poo off his shorts, and sped down the open pitch towards glorious victory. With the Krox and the sauri tying up all the bashers, surely he's home fre-..! bloody hell, did that black orc have to figure out how to dodge, right now? Gabba Eat'Smasha blitzes, rolls a glorious 6 on his dodge roll, to slip right past his marker to the surprise of everyone, not least, Gabba himself. In fact, so distracted with smug contemplation over his sweet dodge, Gabba's tiny brain overloads, he fudges the blitz and somehow winds up standing next to a very unimpressed Kroxigor. You mess with a lil lizard, be prepared to face the big one. Cuddles reads Gabba a bedtime story, while Killer sprints to the end zone for a turn 16 touchdown.
0 - 1 to the MinMax Machine; MVP rightly going to the star of the Machine, Cuddles the Krox who saved some serious arse and kicked a few in the process.
Such a fun and well fought game. It could have been so different if DocOz had focused on securing points on the board, but like always, the skinks are just too tempting. I mean, who doesn't like to play whack-a-skink... it's like stealing spp from a baby.
Its not plain sailing yet - Parrigan's elves still block the way to playoffs, and the machine need at least a tie to move through the group stages. Stay tuned for a thrilling end to the regular season.
signing out, Comfort_Eagle (and yes, can you tell I'm on holidays this week?)

DocOz - Comfort_Eagle It could have been so different if DocOz had focused on securing points on the board, but like always, the skinks are just too tempting. I mean, who doesn't like to play whack-a-skink... it's like stealing spp from a baby. The Pur'pl Pee'pl Eatr's have fired...by this I mean 'lit on" fire their assistant coach that had instituted some serious 'Bad Habits' to the teams Black Orc squad resulting in the loss of a RR for this match... Additionally the Play-Caller for the match that sold the Head Coach on the whole "Whack a Skink" idea has similarly met a smouldering end... But waste not want not, the teams after game BBQ was a great success!
