Another crazy idea, but first some background.
I had a rookie Saurus for 12 games without him getting a SPP. He was very useful in that time, being parked next to opponents big guy/killer... Eventually he died... I got another who did the same role, and went 4 games without a SPP.
But then my best Saurus died. Clearly treating the rookies in this way is unsustainable, especially with 2 rookies on the team. As it happens, I was already up 2-0 in this game, so I got my long suffering rookie the ball and scored with him. Lo and behold he gets the MVP too and levels!
I would say Block every time normally. But am wondering about MB, to try and get him levelling up ASAP.

Its the same conundrum for me as I love playing Norse..... what do you give a rookie Ulf first up? I always go Block.... but I feel that's because I don't have the balls or the money to risk the MB..... If you've got money MB him..... then let me know how it goes mate!!!

MB won't help keep him upright. MB won't help with blocking blunders. It's not 'safe' by any means, but will help developing him faster. Hudd, you seem to be a lucky SOB, why not try MB and see what happens. Hell... you might just be on to something if it works

How's the old saying go? Give a man a pow, and he'll knock one guy out. Teach a man to pow and he'll be good for the whole season.
There's a reason why people generally don't take MB first- you'd never do it in a low tv league cos you need reliability. Why start increasing your risk now? Str + block is good enough.
However, if you were going to go down that route, I'd seriously consider getting an extra team rr to compensate for those times when you roll double both downs (and you know its gonna happen).

You HAVE seen hudd blocking before I take it? Not sure he'd recognise a skull if it quoted Hamlet at him :-)

Did you see the Bronze semi final where I managed 8 POWs out of 150 block dice? Reason I really need to skill up fast (My Krox is also a rookie by the way) is I am in a highly developed environment. I now have 1 guard, which just means I am going to get panelled against any bash teams. Fortunately my group is quite forgiving this year in that respect. I got orcs this week (5 guard), then it is all underworld, dark elves, goblins... (yes in tier 3 of OCC!) In fact I might just give this guy Guard... Argh, what to choose...?
